Red Ironbark is a strong Australian Eucalypts hardwood that grows in Victoria, NSW and southern Queensland. Red Ironbark heartwood can range from a deep dark red, to red-brown to a red with orange overtones. It has a contrasting pale yellow sapwood. The timber contains an interlocked grain. It is outstanding for weather-exposed applications, and has been used extensively in structural applications for over 200 years (including railway sleepers). Common uses include decking, framing, flooring, marine construction, and indoor/outdoor furniture. It should be noted that Ironbark can be very hard work, which makes it less commonly used in fine detail projects.
