Description

River Red Gum is found throughout inland Australia along watercourses. Although a quintessentially Australian tree, it has been widely planted worldwide. It is named for the red colouring of its heartwood which can range from dark, deep red to a soft pink. The timber is durable and naturally rot resistant and as such has been used extensively in outdoor applications. Due to the prevalence of fiddleback figure it is desired for furniture production and is great for carving and turning. It is also excellent for firewood and charcoal production. Historically, River Red Gum was used as street paving throughout Sydney in the late 1800s.
